National Acne Awareness Month with Phyt's

June is National Acne Awareness Month, and we want you to know all about it, including the causes and how to treat it. Acne is actually one of the most common skin conditions in the UK, affecting millions of people. Acne can happen in occasional outbreaks, or it can be a constant and have severe presence.

Oily, acne prone skin may look shiny, dull, with uneven skin texture, large and open pores and skin blemishes.

Before we get right in to it, lets take a look at the different types of acne - as not all pimples are the same.

  • Whiteheads - Stay just below the surface of the skin and have a white surface
  • Blackheads - Small lesions that look like an open pore that is black
  • Pauples - Small pink bumps that can be tender
  • Pustules - Red at the bottom and have a white coloured fluid on the top
  • Nodules/Cysts - Large, painful, solid pimples that are deep in the skin

Acne can be caused by a variety of factors, these can include genetics, bacteria, hormones, lifestyle and stress levels. Acne occurs when pores are clogged by dead skin cells that are trapped by sebum production. Bacteria then gets into the clogged pores, where it then multiplies and causes inflammation.

To reduce the shiny aspect and to remove blackheads and blemishes, the main thing is: long-term thorough cleansing hygiene.

Morning and evening, cleansing should be a priority in your beauty ritual to remove impurities and excess sebum. We would recommend Phyt's Purifying Cleansing Foam.

This cleansing, purifying, soap-free foam eliminates impurities and excess sebum gently. It's gentle surfactants cleanse and preserve the skin from aggressions. Formulated with essential oils and natural astringent, and purifying plant extracts.

After cleansing, the skin should be followed up with a hydrating, purifying moisturiser. We would recommend Phyt's Mattifying Purifying Cream.

This creamy, non-comedogenic cream targets three types of imperfections: shiny skin, open pores and spots. Sebum regulating, it normalises oily skin by reducing excess sebum production, whilst also hydrating in order to ensure a matte appearance.

Finally, once a week, oily skin should be gently exfoliated and a mask should then be applied to purify the skin, unclog the pores and refine skin texture. We would recommend Award Winning, Phyt's Purifying Exfoliating mask.

A 2-in-1 cream with a non drying formula which combines the benefits of a mask and the effectiveness of a scrub. It's amber powder offers a gentle exfoliating action and unclogs pores. The three clays combined with the charcoal absorb impurities and oily secretions immediately.
